My Experience At The Green Rooms On arrival a three minute drive inland, whisked me up-hill away from the dust and buzz of the main drag at Playa Carmen to be deposited into the more silent cool of the hillside jungle. Dawn-light the next day revealed my first glimpse of a new daily ritual …the eight minute walk down to the beach, out of our new exclusive hillside jungle hollow. A rough track walks us down past pockets of Tico life, family homes in amongst the trees, a sawmill, an open-air spray shop, across the little river bridge that’s washed out with every rainy season before striking the edge of tourist accommodation that tends to solicit the human business of the dusty main road. The tree-fringed beach reveals three-foot offshore kissed waves in a bathwarm, blue ocean.. It was to become a daily ritual to surf as the sun came up, before taking breakfast back at ‘the camp.’ In the intense heat of the mid-day I floated on my back in the infinity-pool; eyes staring towards the sun set vertically high in a Pacific blue sky. A lazy gyration of 360* revealed an unbroken wrap-around green canopy of vegetation that definitively names the Green Rooms as a place in nature. By night a barbecue of freshly caught fish, as we socialize in the tropical evening warmth with the other residents of Green Rooms admiring a star-studded sky to the background orchestral backing of jungle frogs.
